Scare Grove. Nice.
Jeremy: performer
Picked an 8 year old out of the audience. Handed her a torch that was 1/3 as tall as the kid.
Lit the torch.
The parents in the audience looking at each other. A mixture of, is this safe and how neat.
She lit his juggling batons and he lit is unicycle on fire.
I’m hoping we are taking a turn in our society. Allowing a little more risk and less fear of lawsuits.
I asked him about it after… “I trust kids more than adults.”
Me too.

650 person keynote
Scottsdale, Arizona
Not all the moving parts were working the way I’d like them to. A wee bit stressed. Still having fun.
First AV guy: Hi What can I do for you today?
(I had BustaMove -kid n play- playing on the loudspeakers.
Um, the running man?
After a few seconds of thinking, my AV person busted a move: the perfect running man.
Moments later, another representative who would help me with sound approached. Can I get you anything?
Um. Well. The last guy did the running man.. what do you have for me?
Maybe 2 seconds passed… he did the sprinkler… and the music wasn’t even good
I applauded. Wow. This is customer service! (Fairmont Hotel i Scottsdale. A green hotel.. no bottled water - everyone received a water bottle and a 5 gallon jug at the back of the room.)
My last person. Ryan. In a suit. Just checking to make sure I was happy and ready. Anything I can do?
Um, well Ryan. I got the running man and the sprinkler.. what do you have for me?
After much thinking…I still can’t believe it… the man busted out with the shopping cart. Do you even remember that dance?
Life is good.

Chris Brown. I can’t stop thinking about Chris Brown.
A friend sent me this video a while back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g8DCt3Lmi28.
I love the song: the whole thing, the wedding entrance, the lyrics, everything.
And Chris Brown beat up his girlfriend. Sucked. It seems his father did the same thing to his mom.
It was such a great opportunity for him… to move the world forward in this area. He was coached to be protective and quiet in the media.
Imagine, instead of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZyDs2fESCQ, he would have looked at Larry and said, “WTF. I have no idea how this happened. It is NOT okay, and I plan on doing more than picking up trash. I plan on helping eradicate domestic violence as a top issue in my community. There is no reason for anyone to strike the person they love. I am dedicating this chapter of my life to figuring out what the hell is going on that we repeat this shit. My father did it; I hated it; why in the hell would I repeat this?”
Something–ANYTHING–is better than the way he responded. It sucked. He hid the issue rather than spotlighting it.
We are changing as a world. The video of the wedding march got so many hits because it was unexpected and real. Instead of performing some ritual that didn’t connect with the wedding party, they danced.
In the media, rather than protect and be silent, have some sort of emotion–be real.
